Shockpulse technology in large renal stone
COURSE DESCRIPTION
LEARNING OUTCOMES
We are going to discuss today PCNL in a large kidney stone using the Shock-pulse technology, which as you may be aware, is one of the newer energy sources which are now in use. This shock pulse is a dual-energy system, which uses both ultrasonic as well as mechanical/pneumatic energy intermittently for stone fragmentation, which allows rapid fragmentation as well as rapid clearance of the stone, making the procedure much faster and much more efficient. This is especially useful in large stones and staghorn stones, and in our experience, it has significantly reduced the overall operating time and also morbidity.

Prof Dr Madhu Sudan Agrawal
Dr (Prof) Madhu Sudan Agrawal, is the Head, Department of Urology & Centre for Minimally-Invasive Endourology, Global Rainbow Healthcare, Agra, India. He has been Professor at SN Medical College and University Hospital, Agra until 2009. He has been the President of Urological Society of India 2019-20, and is the founder President of SAARC Association of Urological Surgeons 2020-22.
He was University topper in medical school during graduation, with distinction/honours in all subjects. He passed MS (Surgery) in 1983 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and MCh (Urology) in 1989 from SMS Medical College, Jaipur.
He is a member of editorial board of Indian J Urology, and reviewer for multiple national & international Journals, including J Endourology, Urology (Gold Journal), Urolithiasis, Canadian J Urology, Indian J Urology, Indian J Surgery, Indian J Med Res, etc. He has nearly 100 publications and has written several chapters for text books at national and international level. He has presented more than 200 papers, and has delivered more than 200 guest lectures, including multiple orations, in national & international conferences.
He has received multiple best paper and poster awards in National & International conferences. He is the recipient of PV Rao Oration 2006, PN Kataria Oration 2010, Marudhara Jodhpur Urology Oration 2013, Ranganadha Rao Oration of SOGUS 2016-17, & President’s Gold Medal 2016 of Urological Society of India. He delivered UAA Lecture at the EAU Meeting 2017, SLAUS (Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons) Lecture 2018, and was awarded the SLAUS gold medal. He delivered the USI Lecture in BAUS (Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons) meeting 2019, the USI Lecture in NAUS (Nepal Association of Urological Surgeons) meeting 2019, and the UAA lecture in HUA (Hong Kong Urology Association) meeting 2019.
He is one of the pioneers in Endourology in India since 1980’s, popularizing innovative technology including Tubeless PCNL, Ultrasound-guided puncture, MIP (Minimally-invasive PCNL) with Laser etc. He has conducted many operative workshops as faculty at National and International level. He has organized several conferences, and conducted national and international live operative workshops. He conducts training programs in minimally-invasive Endourology for national and international trainees at his centre on a regular basis.
