COURSE DESCRIPTION

Dr Joseph Michael Abogdo Ursua demonstrates how to perform a Mini PCNL using a suction sheath. He performs PCNL in a patient with a staghorn calculus. Dr. Joseph demonstrates he performs punctures and dilates track. He uses a semi-rigid ureteroscope as a nephroscope to perform PCNL.

No laser was used for stone fragmentation, instead, a conventional pneumatic lithoclast was used for lithotripsy, and fragments were evacuated using the suction sheath.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

PCNL is a common surgery performed for stones larger than 20 mm. Often urologists don't have all the advanced types of equipment for executing the surgery. Dr. Joseph demonstrates a mini-PCNL surgery where he used a semi-rigid ureteroscope to enter into the pelvicalyceal system from the mini-PCNL tract in the antegrade path. He used conventional pneumatic lithoclast instead of a laser for stone fragmentation and these fragments are successfully evacuated using the suction system.
