COURSE DESCRIPTION

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy has undergone significant evolution, with Superperc representing one of the most notable innovations in recent years. This course, led by Dr. Kaushik Shah, takes participants through the journey of Superperc: what it is, why it matters, and how it is performed. The session combines theoretical foundations with practical insights into instrumentation and operative steps. Special emphasis is placed on the benefits of Superperc compared to conventional PCNL, such as reduced tract size, lower complication rates, and quicker recovery. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with knowledge that bridges science with surgical application, making them better prepared to adopt and apply Superperc in clinical practice.

Dr Kaushik V Shah

Dr. Kaushik Shah is senior Consultant – UROLOGY was born at Nadiad in 1960. He did all his Schooling from Nadiad and stood 5th in state of Gujarat in SSCE board in 1976.

He did his MBBS and MS from Baroda medical college, M. S. University Baroda in 1984. He was awarded gold medal in M.S (general surgery) in 1988 from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He did his M. Ch (urology) from JIPMER, Pondicherry in 1990. He was an assistant editor to Indian Journal of Urology at Pondicherry. He was an assistant professor in urology and head of urology unit-2 at IKDRC, Ahmedabad.

Dr. Kaushik Shah is a renowned Urologist in Surat and currently practices at Varun Hospital & prasutigruh, Surat, Gujarat, India and affiliated with multiple hospital. His areas of interest include Endourology (PCNL, URS, RIRS), Laser surgery for the Prostate and for stones, Laparoscopy and for Reconstructive Urology. On the bases of his clinical outcomes, he received many awards. Also, he is a member of many reputed organisations. Dr. Kaushik Shah has worked as a Urology Doctors and gained proficient skills and knowledge in the segments like Radical Prostatectomy, Lithotripsy, Nephrectomy, Circumcision, Prostate Resection Surgery and Kidney Stone Removal. He attended many regional and national conferences. He attended many workshops and actively participated in live operative workshop. He presented few papers and poster in regional and national conferences. He presented a poster on Superperc-PCNL via small size suction cannula ‘at 4th International Meeting challenges in Endourology and Functional Urology (CIE) at Paris. He is a member of Indian medical Association, Urological Society of India, and west zone chapter of USI. He is a member of American Urological association from last several years. He has attended AUA at Orlando, USA. He has conducted free urological surgical camps at Surat. He is pioneer in developing field of urology in South Gujarat, India. His special field of interest is Endourology Kaushik Shah had invented and patented SHAH sheath, marketed under Usha Enterprise for percutaneous lithotripsy named SUPERPERC, in which very small puncture is needed for stone removal, has now become the procedure of choice.

TURP and laser treatment (THuLEP) are available for patients with an enlarged prostate. The latest uroflow machine is installed for proper diagnosis of severity of symptoms due to an enlarged prostate. OIU, VIU, Urethroplasty, Pyeloplasty are done to treat patients with stricture urethra and stricture in ureter.

TURBT, Nephrectomy, Radical cystectomy, Orchidectomy and Penectomy are done to treat urological malignancy.
