Name: Prof Dr Simon Choong

Simon Choong graduated from medical school at University College London (UCL) Hospitals in 1987. He was appointed Director of Endourology to lead the stone unit at the Institute of Urology, University College London Hospitals in 2002, which has been accredited by the European Board of Urology as a sub-specialty centre in the field of stone disease. He was awarded Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000. He is a committee board member for PCNL guidelines for International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) and an organising committee member for Super-mini PCNL for IAU.

Simon Choong was Director of Teaching Programme in Urology for North & South Thames, London. He supervised a number of MD thesis and he is an Examiner for MB,BS examinations in Surgery, University College London. He is a Committee Member and referee for Urolithiasis and is a referee for BJU International, J Urol, J Endourology, J Clin Urol and BJU International Knowledge. He has organized and run more than 40 international and national live surgery endourology masterclasses. 

He helped to set up the paediatric kidney stone service at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK and was Invited to set up the paediatric kidney stone and PCNL service in Sri Lanka in February 2018. In collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, he set up the Postgraduate certification (PG Cert) module training for Urology in 2021.

Simon Choong was appointed Adjunct Professor by Guangzhou Medical University in March 2019 and he was awarded a Visiting Professorship by University of Naples, Federico II in July 2019. He will be organizing and hosting the 11th International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) and UCL urology conference in London between 14 to 17 July 2022.
